Fall from Innocence~~       "The Body"

"The Body" a novella by Stephen King is a classic coming of age story that examines the strength of friendship through the classic journey that evokes images of Odyessus.  Is it possible to escape one's circumstances through the bond of friendship?  Can friends truly influence and inspire more than family ties?  This story asks these questions and more as Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern set off on the adventure to find a dead body.

I had the pleasure of seeing Stephen King at Radio City Music Hall in 2006.  It was an evening designed to raise money for his favorite charity along with J.K. Rowling and John Irving.  As I settled in my seat anticipating what piece of work Stephen King would share with the audience, I considered all his novels.  I was so delighted when he began to read from "The Body".

It is my hope that adding Mr. King to the curriculum will excite and entice students to read.  I look forward to sharing this author with my students this year.  Sincerely, ~~Mrs. Vandigriff~~
